Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Liz moved to California to attend college. With degrees in Liberal Studies and Theater Arts and two teaching credentials, she's directed plays and taught elementary and middle school students, as well as teachers.

The author of ten books, including the New York Times best-selling memoir, The Missing Kennedy: Rosemary Kennedy and the Secret Bonds of Four Women, a Writer's Digest Selection, The ABCs of Writing for Children, and several children's books, she is a former columnist for Byline Magazine. She wrote frequent humor pieces for the San Francisco Examiner as well as hundreds of articles in newspapers and magazines such as Parents Magazine, Writer's Digest, and Parenting.

She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, a civil engineer, and Emmie, a Yorkshire terrier. Their son, Christopher, is an engineer in Massachusetts.
