LeeAnne Krusemark will present “Writing Irresistible Query Letters” at the next meeting of the Mt. Diablo Branch of the California Writers Club (CWC) on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Zio Fraedo’s Restaurant, 611 Gregory Lane, Pleasant Hill.
LeeAnne Krusemark will discuss: What to include and leave out, how to establish credibility in your query, how to create an effective “elevator pitch” and other query letter essentials.
She is an adjunct online publishing professor for Harvard, and more than 1,000 other facilities worldwide, a speaker, former journalist, editor, and author of magazine articles and several business books. She also represents writers as an editor and agent.

12th Annual Voices of Lincoln Poetry Contest
Poets Wanted! Enter Now! Special Young Poets Category!
The 12th Annual Voices of Lincoln Poetry Contest officially begins in April, as part of the celebration of National Poetry Month, with five new categories: “Things My Parents Taught Me,” “The Best Gift I Ever Received,” “It Happened One Night,” “If I Were Rich And Famous,” and “You Can Count On Me.” Poets may submit a maximum of three poems, no more than one in each of three of the five contest categories.
Poems may be in rhyme, free verse, Haiku or other accepted poetry forms and of any length, up to a maximum of 60 lines.
Everyone is encouraged to enter the contest. Poets do not have to live in Lincoln, CA to be eligible. Young Poets, 18-years of age or under, are encouraged to submit poems and will compete in a special “Young Poets” category.
Entry Forms and Contest Rules are available at the Front Desk at the Lincoln Public Library at Twelve Bridges and can be downloaded from the following website: www.libraryatlincoln.org under “NEWS.”

Winners will read their poems on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the Voices of Lincoln event to be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Willow Room at the Lincoln Public Library at Twelve Bridges, 485 Twelve Bridges Drive, Lincoln, CA. Winners also will be presented with a commemorative chapbook of the winning poems.

Special Guest speaker, Heather Mackey, will discuss “Turning Ideas into Stories.” She will cover story hunting, ideas, building a story, and why storytelling matters.
Heather Mackey is a kid’s lit author of fantasy adventure novels. Her books include Dreamwood, and the forthcoming The Shadow Clock. She is a member of the National Writing Project’s Writers Council, and consults with the online student writing community, Write the World.
