Producer, teacher, and personal manager Marilyn Atlas will conduct a three-hour breakfast workshop on “Dating Your Character” at the next meeting of the Mt. Diablo Branch of the California Writers Club (CWC) on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Zio Fraedo’s Restaurant, 611 Gregory Lane, Pleasant Hill.

Ms. Atlas will offer insights and guidance in a hands-on workshop on creating character. She will discuss what makes a character three-dimensional, creating conflict, a powerful subtext, and how to get into a character’s head.

She produced the award-winning Real Women Have Curves for HBO The Choking Game for Lifetime, numerous films and plays. Her co-authored book Dating Your Character (Stairway Press) was released August 30, 2016.

Sign-in at 8:30 am, full breakfast from 9 to 9:30 am. Workshop from 9:30-12:30. The cost is $40 for CWC members, $50 for guests.

C.S.Lakin will present a workshop on “The fatal Flaws of Fiction Writing” at the next luncheon meeting of the Mt. Diablo Branch of the California Writers Club (CWC) on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Zio Fraedo’s Restaurant, 611 Gregory Lane, Pleasant Hill, California.

Ms. Lakin will discuss the following common flaws: overwriting, weak construction, POV violations, telling instead of showing, too much backstory, and description deficiencies and excesses.

Do you have interests in music, video and film visual arts, dance, creative writing, or animation?  If so, California State Summer School for the Arts may be for you.  From July 9 through August 5, 2016, professionals will offer their expertise in these areas to high school students.  Held at CalArts in Valencia, California, the tuition is $1700 for California residents and $5200 for out-of-state residents.  Full and partial scholarships are available for first-time California residents!

In addition, students can receive 3 units of college extension credit from the California State University system.

Amanda McTigue will present a workshop on “Authentic, Compelling, Memorable: What Voice Can Do for Your Writing” at the next luncheon meeting of the Mt. Diablo Branch of the California Writers Club (CWC) on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Zio Fraedo’s Restaurant, 611 Gregory Lane, Pleasant Hill.

Ms. McTigue will conduct a hands-on workshop to explore techniques to find one’s writer’s voice. Her presentation will include short writing exercises and conversation.

She is a Yale graduate, who has been a writer/consultant for Disney Entertainment and Paramount, and most recently, a lecturer at Sonoma State University. Her debut novel, Going to Solace was KRCB’s Best Read of 2012. Her short story collection, This is Not Water, and novel Monkey Bottom are her current projects.
